A pregnant Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) student of Ngwa High School, Aba, Abia State, has been arrested alongside her 30-year-old boyfriend, Michael Alozie, have been arrested by soldiers attached to the the 144 Battalion, after she connived with Alozie to stage a kidnap so as to extort money from her parents.
Southern City News reports that the girl identified simply as Nneoma, was impregnated by Alozie and to be able to elope to an unknown place, agreed to the plan to fake her kidnap and demand a ransom from her parents. After the staged kidnap, Alozie allegedly placed a call to her parent that she had been kidnapped and that they should pay a ransom of N1.5 million for her release. It was learned that Alozie who had earlier threatened the girl’s parents through repeated calls and text messages, demanding the ransom, confessed that Nneoma was his girlfriend and was pregnant for him. During interrogation, Alozie reportedly claimed he planned to marry the girl but blamed a friend who is now on the run, for the kidnap plan and sending the threat messages to her parents, demanding ransom. It was also gathered that Alozie, after impregnating the girl, had threatened to kill her if her parents failed to pay the money. However, the parents who didn’t know that their daughter agreed to her own kidnap and was already five months pregnant for the suspect, agreed to pay N1 million as ransom.
While agreeing to pay the ransom, the panicky parents made a report to the soldiers and following a tip-off, the soldiers stormed a hideout at Chokoneze, Mbaise, in Imo State, where Alozie was arrested and he led the soldiers to where he kept the girl.
